Medical Laboratory Specialist

As a Medical Technologist at Covenant Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results. Your expertise will be essential in performing routine and complex tests in various disciplines, including blood bank, serology, urinalysis, coagulation, chemistry, hematology, and microbiology. You will work closely with technical specialists to manage assigned sections and provide high-quality work with speed and accuracy.
Responsibilities:
• Perform high-quality work with speed and accuracy
• Assume responsibility for proper quality control measures
• Perform and record quality control data and report results accurately and in a timely manner
• Troubleshoot instruments and reagent problems and perform preventative maintenance as scheduled
• Properly operate equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and record action taken
• Assist in the training of MLT students and new employees as assigned by the technical specialist
• Notify physician or designated nurse when panic values are observed in testing
• Exercise use of cost-conscious methods as set forth by the technical specialist (use of time, punctuality, supplies)
• Assume responsibility for the area in the absence of the technical specialist
• Perform work using independent judgment and organizational skills to meet established deadlines
• Collect blood specimens as necessary using established techniques for the various age groups assigned
• Perform and document Quality Control functions under the direction of the technical specialist
• Assist technical specialist with work assignments and technical oversight of testing staff
• Remain mentally alert and maintain concentration with attention to detail for prolonged periods, at times under stress
• Maintain adaptability, flexibility, initiative, persistence, and efficiency of time management and action
• Do not pose a direct threat to health or safety of self or others
• Provide safe, efficient, competent care to population assigned
• Meet MMC Environment of Care Standards
• Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards
• Complete required education assignments annually
• Work toward achieving goals and objectives, and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested
Requirements:
• Must be licensed in the State of Tennessee as a medical technologist
• Must possess knowledge obtained by formal education, previous experience, or on-the-job training of instruments and quality control methods for those procedures assigned
• Must possess knowledge of blood bank, hematology, serology, urinalysis, chemistry, and microbiology obtained by formal education
• Must have or acquire the computer skills necessary to perform assigned duties
