Job Overview:

The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) is responsible for managing the regional flood control system and associated facilities to safeguard lives and properties from tidal flooding caused by natural weather phenomena.

Position Summary:

The Senior Mobile Equipment Mechanic engages in advanced maintenance, repair, and overhaul of various mobile machinery, including but not limited to automobiles, pick-up trucks, bulldozers, cranes, graders, front-end loaders, skid steers, diesel equipment, sweepers, and other rolling stock.

This role involves significant physical effort to execute a range of tasks within the Mechanic Maintenance Department under the direct supervision of a Mechanic Supervisor A.

While this position includes lead worker responsibilities, it does not encompass direct supervisory duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a minimum of three years of experience as a mechanic. Training from a trade school, vocational-technical school, or military institution may substitute for the required experience, credited in six-month increments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct skilled maintenance and repairs on small engines and mobile equipment.
  • Disassemble, diagnose, overhaul, rebuild, and repair heavy machinery or complex systems, including engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic tests to identify malfunctions across various systems, leveraging extensive knowledge gained through experience.
  • Employ visual and audible inspections alongside computerized test equipment to assess vehicle systems.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to lower-level mechanics, including training in diesel and hydraulic engine repair.
  • May be required to perform in-field repairs and assist in field operations.
  • Ensure quality assurance on repaired vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for subordinate mechanics.

The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) operates as an emergency-oriented agency, committed to protecting residents from tidal surge, wind-driven water, and river flooding. In emergency situations, the incumbent may be required to be on call and report for duty as needed.
