POSITION OVERVIEW

To facilitate our ongoing growth, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is seeking a skilled Mobile Trailer Technician II to become part of our team. This role is focused on providing dedicated on-site services, and it does not involve emergency roadside repairs.

The Mobile Trailer Technician II will undertake responsibilities including certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance checks, minor repairs, and additional tasks as assigned, such as working on aluminum and chem-lite, trailer braking systems, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and panel replacements.

Work will be conducted at the client's location, and the Mobile Trailer Technician II will have the opportunity to perform more complex repairs under the guidance of a Senior Mobile Trailer Technician or higher.

A successful Mobile Trailer Technician II adheres to all company policies and consistently meets high-performance standards.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Consistently follow and adhere to safe operating procedures.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck, performing regular reconciliations.
  • Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Utilize knowledge gained from formal training and practical experience to execute job duties effectively.
  • Engage with clients to understand their needs, providing assistance and resolving issues to their satisfaction.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions.
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile environment.
  • Respond to unscheduled service requests dispatched by the call center.
  • Employ hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks as needed.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and observations according to company standards using an iOS device.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Work autonomously while managing a daily schedule effectively.
  • Maintain high productivity levels and adhere to Standard Repair Times.
  • Source parts from approved vendors as required for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals for repair estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as federal regulations.
  • Participate in all mandatory safety training.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Conduct safety checks and inspections on the service truck daily.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with trailer equipment.
  • Assist junior technicians with diagnostics as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma/GED with 3 years of relevant experience or 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record required.
  • Possession of a valid DOT Medical Card or the ability to obtain one within 72 hours of hire.
  • Must provide a personal set of hand tools necessary for job functions.
  • OEM training and certifications are advantageous.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Completion of all required company training is mandatory.
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification is required or must be obtained within 18 months of employment.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
  • ASE 608/609 certification.
  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification.
  • ASE T5 (Suspension) certification.
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification.
  • ASE T7 (HVAC) certification.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • In-depth knowledge of trailer components and systems, including their design, functionality, repair, and maintenance.
  • Physical capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; ability to perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Effective communication skills to convey information clearly and organized.
  • Ability to identify necessary tools and equipment for tasks.
  • Logical reasoning skills to evaluate alternative solutions.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Hourly wage ranges from $25.58 to $38.37 based on experience and location. Additional benefits include:
