Principal Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our Research and Systems Engineering organization for Foundational Platform Engineering (FPE). As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in setting technical direction, providing technical leadership, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex projects.
Key Responsibilities- Drive the development of new technologies and mentor engineers to ensure technical excellence and innovation.
- Lead and manage the technical delivery of enterprise-level infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to architectural design principles, security standards, and project timelines.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, acting as the primary technical point of contact for project-related communications and escalations.
- Monitor project progress, identify technical risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery.
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
- BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
- 7+ years experience in software development and delivery. In-depth knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies, including virtualization, networking, storage, and security.
- Expertise in designing complex, distributed, and scalable enterprise level applications.
- Solid programming skills in Python or Go for automation, scripting, and infrastructure management tasks.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management tools (Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Salt).
- Hands on experience creating and managing automated OS image builds with tools such as Packr or Image Builder.
- Strong expertise in VMWare HCX and ESXi for efficient workload migration across different environments.
- Strong knowledge of public cloud (Azure/GCP) with hands-on experience in deploying and managing applications in the cloud.
- Strong expertise in Docker, Kubernetes and PCF.
- Expertise in managing high availability and efficient deployment of cloud-native applications.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, etc.
- Experience with GitOps principles and tools, such as Git, Flux, or ArgoCD, for managing infrastructure and application deployments.
- Proficiency in API gateways, such as Kong or Apigee, for managing and securing APIs.
- Knowledge of Service Mesh technologies, such as Istio, Linkerd, or Consul, for microservices communication and observability.
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs with hands-on experience in designing or extending such APIs.
- Total Base Pay Range: $144,000.00 - $300,000.00 USD Annual.
