Position Overview: The General Counsel acts as the primary legal advisor for ChildNet, offering expert legal guidance and support. This role encompasses the management and oversight of all legal matters, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The following responsibilities outline the core functions of this position:
  • Lead the organization in maintaining legal compliance and adherence to ChildNet's mission and objectives.
  • Oversee both internal and external legal matters, ensuring prompt and effective delivery of legal services.
  • Provide legal and policy guidance to the Board, executive leadership, and staff on matters related to ChildNet.
  • Engage and supervise external legal counsel in the management of legal issues and litigation involving ChildNet.
  • Advise on a range of legal and regulatory issues, including Board governance, contract management, commercial disputes, risk management, and employment law.
  • Stay informed on changes in relevant laws and regulations, and develop responsive legal strategies and policies as necessary.
  • Collaborate with various departments to implement programs aimed at minimizing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Act as a liaison with governmental and community agencies to foster partnerships that support ChildNet's mission.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion within the organization.
  • Manage public inquiries and crisis situations while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Advocate for ChildNet's interests effectively.
  • Oversee the performance and accountability of team members in relevant areas, supporting workforce planning initiatives.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and operational development of ChildNet.
  • Participate in the preparation and management of annual budgets to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Recognize and respond to the culturally specific needs of diverse populations.
Qualifications:

Experience:
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of comprehensive legal experience in both public and private sectors, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with executives and Boards.
Education/Certifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar.
