Job Overview:

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $175,000 per year

Job Description:

This role requires an experienced estimator who specializes in heavy civil structures estimating. The successful candidate will be based in our Denver, Colorado office and manage all aspects of developing cost estimates for large heavy civil projects involving structures. Additionally, this individual may be responsible for developing cost estimates for projects involving earthwork and underground utilities.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Create detailed cost estimates following the pricing format required by the structures project.
  • Research pricing for estimates based on historical and regional costs.
  • Develop high-level project scopes to create estimate summaries and outsourcing control worksheets.
  • Lead outreach efforts to subcontractor and supply communities directly.
  • Visit project sites, participate in pre-proposal meetings, clarify project scope, and prepare RFI's.
  • Prepare written statements of qualifications and/or proposals responding to project owners' requests for qualifications and requests for proposals.
  • Evaluate projects for constructability and value-engineer cost savings.
  • Work closely with our team and other stakeholders to develop strategies, competitive differentiations, and overall project understanding.
  • Identify specialty subcontractors and suppliers that meet unique project requirements.
  • Develop and/or manage preliminary bid schedules.
  • Develop self-performed estimates for trades we choose to self-perform.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders through the bid process to capture complete project scopes.
  • Accurately utilize project plans and specifications to identify work scopes, assign crews, schedules, materials, and subcontracting opportunities.
  • Manage bid receipt of subcontractor and supplier pricing to develop final selling prices and offers.
  • Understand and manage risk as part of the proposal preparation process.
  • Close estimates in HCSS with the team.
  • Develop preliminary project schedules using information from Plans and Specifications and Primavera Contractor software.
  • Contribute to proposal development and technical writing.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you must have:
  • A 4-year BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, P.E. preferred.
  • At least 10+ years of experience in heavy civil structures estimating.
  • Estimating experience with bridges, CIP concrete structures, retaining walls, and other structures required.
  • Experience in all aspects of heavy civil work scopes preferred.
  • Experience working with DOTs preferred.
  • Familiarity with HCSS (Heavybid Software), Agtek, and Primavera P6 strongly preferred.
  • Alternate delivery experience preferred, including technical writing skills.
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
  • A sense of urgency and ability to multitask.
  • High productivity and willingness to manage a busy work schedule independently.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
