Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Landscape Maintenance Worker to join our team at Virginia Tech. As a key member of our facilities operations department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to landscape maintenance, including flower bed installation and maintenance, fertilizer and pesticide applications, and grounds maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform flower bed installation and maintenance, including planting, pruning, and mulching.
  • Apply fertilizers and pesticides as needed to maintain healthy and thriving landscapes.
  • Conduct routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and edging.
  • Assist with snow removal and other seasonal tasks as needed.
  • Work safely and efficiently to meet deadlines and maintain high-quality results.
Requirements
  • Experience in general grounds maintenance and/or landscape installation and maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain Registered Technician License within 3 months of employment and Certified Fertilizer Applicator License within 6 months of employment.
  • Physical ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in grounds care in an institutional or commercial setting.
  • Experience using commercial riding mowers, tractors, small power and hand tools.
  • Registered Technician License.
