Position Overview

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking dedicated Pharmacy Technician professionals to join our Inpatient Pharmacy team. This role operates on a unique schedule of 7 days on, followed by 7 days off, during the hours of 7:30 PM to 7:00 AM. This shift structure is accompanied by additional compensation for midnight and weekend hours worked.

In this position, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the precise preparation and distribution of medications. Your responsibilities will include compounding, maintaining accurate records, and facilitating the timely delivery of pharmaceutical products. You will be tasked with preparing a variety of medications, including intravenous solutions, chemotherapy agents, total parenteral nutrition, and both oral and investigational drugs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute all duties as outlined by established protocols under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Utilize pharmacy software systems to accurately enter medication orders and retrieve essential patient data.
  • Assist in the management of pharmacy inventory and maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, reporting any medication discrepancies promptly.
  • Ensure the timely provision of prescribed medications and stock items as required.
  • Employ effective communication and listening skills, keeping supervisors informed of departmental activities and challenges.
  • Develop a personal growth plan and maintain records of competency validation.
  • Engage in goal setting and support the ongoing development of fellow team members.
  • Contribute to the training and orientation of new pharmacy staff and students.
  • Participate in quality management initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery through process monitoring and data analysis.
  • Collaborate on the establishment and tracking of Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) to meet organizational goals.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
  • Demonstrate the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the assigned department.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting.

Required Certifications

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent.
  • State Pharmacy Technician Registration.
  • Ongoing maintenance of certification and completion of continuing education requirements is mandatory.

Preferred Certifications

  • Additional certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or equivalent.
