POSITION SUMMARY
The role of the Academic Support Specialist involves the design, execution, and evaluation of targeted instructional strategies aimed at enhancing student performance in literacy and mathematics. This position emphasizes the importance of continuous progress monitoring and data-driven analysis to track student growth. Collaboration with classroom educators and support personnel is essential to foster instructional proficiency in literacy and math across the educational staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a growth-oriented mindset while working with students requiring additional academic assistance to thrive in their learning environments.
- Develop and execute intervention strategies tailored for individual students or small groups, in alignment with the district's intervention framework.
- Utilize data analytics to guide instructional decisions and participate in collaborative discussions.
- Work closely with colleagues and district leadership to refine intervention practices, enhance peer capabilities, and meet district objectives, including engaging in constructive feedback and video lesson reviews.
- Apply expertise in contemporary educational standards and research related to reading and mathematics instruction.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships.
- Address the diverse needs of learners effectively.
- Employ a range of formal and informal assessment methods, including but not limited to reading assessments and math evaluations.
- Collaborate with educational stakeholders to formulate, implement, and assess individualized learning plans as necessary.
- Create a nurturing and effective educational atmosphere for all students.
- Participate in all required training and collaborative sessions for intervention specialists.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for a focus in mathematics and/or reading. A Master's degree is highly regarded.
- A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience is essential.
- Preferred qualifications include certifications or training in Reading Specialist, Reading Recovery, Interactive Strategies Approach, Orton Gillingham, Wilson, Fundations, and/or Math Recovery/Advantage Math.
- Experience in adult education is preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
- A criminal background check is mandatory for employment.
- Candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid Colorado Educator License.
- Willingness to pursue additional endorsements in Reading Specialist and Math Recovery is expected.
- Ability to travel between various school locations is required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The salary for this position is determined based on educational qualifications and relevant work experience. Certified employees will receive credit for prior teaching experience, with a maximum of ten years applicable.
