Job Summary:

The Yard Hostler is a critical role within our operations team, responsible for safely handling and maneuvering tractor trailers on the yard and within designated areas. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Moves trailers at customer facilities, ensuring timely and efficient transportation of goods.
  • Shuttles tankers, hoppers, and containers, maintaining a high level of safety and productivity.
  • Communicates with Inbound and Outbound Leads to prioritize trailer moves and ensure seamless operations.
  • Documents and performs trailer moves on both Inbound and Outbound operations, maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Transports trailers to keep refrigerated units fueled, adhering to strict temperature control guidelines.
  • Performs yard checks throughout the day, identifying and addressing any issues or concerns.
  • Responsible for ensuring seals are on applicable trailers, maintaining the integrity of our operations.
  • Tracks trailer inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assists customers' carriers with instruction and direction while on the yard, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of grounds, adhering to our company's high standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Verifies and/or reports damages, ensuring prompt resolution and minimizing downtime.
  • Supports Yard Assistant and Mechanic with maintenance duties, contributing to the overall efficiency of our operations.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalency.
  • Minimum 1 year related experience and/or training.
  • CDL preferred.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Environment:

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and extreme cold. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
