Job Summary:

The Yard Hostler is a key member of the GEODIS Group team, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient handling of tractor trailers within the yard and surrounding areas. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Moves trailers at customer facilities, prioritizing tasks to meet operational needs
  • Shuttles tankers, hoppers, and containers, ensuring timely and safe transportation
  • Communicates with Inbound and Outbound Leads to coordinate trailer moves and prioritize tasks
  • Documents and performs trailer moves, maintaining accurate records and reports
  • Transports trailers to keep refrigerated units fueled, ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Performs yard checks throughout the day, identifying and addressing any issues or concerns
  • Responsible for ensuring seals are in place on applicable trailers, maintaining the integrity of cargo
  • Tracks trailer inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Assists customers and carriers with instructions and direction while on the yard, providing exceptional customer service
  • Maintains the cleanliness of grounds, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment
  • Verifies and reports damages, taking prompt action to address any issues
  • Supports Yard Assistant and Mechanic with maintenance duties, contributing to the overall efficiency of the yard

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of related experience and/or training
  • CDL preferred, but not required
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals

Working Conditions:

The Yard Hostler will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and varying weather conditions. The ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities is essential for success in this role.
