Job Title: Senior Substation Physical Designer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Substation Physical Designer to join our team at Leidos. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing substation physical design drawings, specifications, and material requirements for substation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop substation physical design drawings, specifications, and material requirements for substation projects.
  • Prepare high-quality design packages needed to construct (new or modify existing) substations.
  • Use CAD-based tools, including AutoCAD 2D and 3D Inventor, to design and develop substation physical design drawings.
  • Design the physical aspects of substations, including foundation, grounding, conduit layouts, control house layouts, section drawings, electrical bus design, and more.
  • Provide support to different clients and stakeholders as needed.
  • Order and provide approval drawings for non-stock materials, as well as inventorying stock materials substation design packages.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma required, but Associates Degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • 4+ years of direct substation physical and electrical design experience using CAD software on electric utility industry projects.
  • Solid comprehension and application of design software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with Windows-based software, including Word and Excel, which are frequently used to develop project deliverables.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Advanced ability to utilize 2D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with others, including Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and drafters in multi-discipline groups.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and work product quality.
