Job Title: Juvenile Detention Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Juvenile Detention Officer. As a key member of our detention center staff, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring the safety and security of residents, conducting room checks, observing residents in isolation, and performing other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

* Conduct regular room checks on residents to ensure their safety and security
* Observe residents in isolation to prevent any potential harm
* Wake residents and supervise them during showering and other activities
* Oversee residents as they perform housekeeping or other tasks
* Assist in serving meals to residents
* Ensure residents follow facility policies and procedures
* Enforce behavior management system to maintain a safe and secure environment
* Issue warnings and disciplinary measures as necessary, under supervision
* Perform intake procedures for residents entering the facility, including completing required forms, conducting searches, orienting residents to the facility, issuing clothing and linen, and entering data in OJDYS system or other systems as required
* Operate control room and maintain security of the facility, including ensuring doors are locked, monitoring resident's activities by observation and closed-circuit television system, and operating control panel to include but not limited to, opening doors, operating intercom system, and screening incoming telephone calls
* Prepare observation reports reflecting attitudes and behavior of residents
* Maintain logs regarding medication, incidents, incoming and outgoing telephone calls
* Check logs daily to identify problems documented from other shifts and keep supervisor informed of problems identified
* Receive and discharge all residents in Detention
* Patrol housing areas on scheduled and impromptu basis
* Move residents from various locations within and outside the facility
* Take toxicology specimens as requested or authorized
* Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements:

* Must have a valid driver's license
* Must be able to pass required background check, including drug and alcohol screening
* Must have a High School Diploma or GED
* Must be able to work weekends

Work Environment:

This position requires working a 12-hour shift, day shift, night shift, holidays, and overtime. You may be required to drive in adverse weather conditions and must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. You may be exposed to violent youths or youths under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and may be exposed to blood or other bodily fluids. You may be required to intervene in fights and may be exposed to contagious or communicable diseases.
