We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Manager to lead our Histology and Cytology Laboratory team at Cambridge Health Alliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality technical performance, managing laboratory operations, and providing technical management for the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Laboratory Director in interviewing and training new employees for Cytology and Histology
- Coordinate the orientation and training of new employees in the department
- Responsible for the annual review, training, and competency of all staff
- Write and periodically review procedures and policies for the department
- Work on the bench as needed to process and prepare surgical specimens
- Responsible for evaluating new laboratory techniques and procedures
- Effectively manage the inventory of supplies, purchasing, and budgeting for the department
- Responsible for maintaining Cytology/Histology in a state of readiness for CAP, JCAHO, and CLIAA inspections
- Actively participate in committees/task force meetings as required
- Conduct regular department meetings with staff to relay information and seek input
- Review and maintain all quality control data and instrument maintenance records
- Work closely with Pathologists and Histology staff to ensure adherence to established surgical turn-around-times parameters
- Work closely with Pathologists and Cytology staff to identify and correct factors preventing optimal turn-around-times for PAP smear
- Integrate quality improvement into daily work, conduct audits as needed, and report findings to the monthly Quality Improvement committee
- Effectively meet the department's scheduling and staffing needs
- Provide a leadership role in the development of a productive work team, engaging staff in improvement efforts
- Responsible for the maintenance of Frozen Section and Fine Needle Aspirates areas at all three hospital campuses
- Effectively manage the transport of specimens from all three hospital ORs
- Work closely with Pathologists and Pathology Assistant to provide support in the grossing area
- Work closely with Pathologists and Cytotechnologists to improve turn-around-times for non-GYN specimens
- ASCP HT Certification required
- BS in a Biological Science or Chemistry preferred and 5 years of full-time acceptable experience within the last 10 years
- Successful completion of a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program with HTL certification preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
- Experience in processing, fixation, microtomy, and staining of surgical specimens; Immunohistochemistry experience required
- Experience with instrumentation, troubleshooting skills, and ability to manage quality control systems
- Computer skills essential; Word, Excel, and Meditech computer experience preferred
- Familiarity with Dragon desired
- Strong Human Resources and team building skills; ability to serve as a liaison between Cytology/Histology lab and the Physician group
- Knowledge of Cytology Lab preferred
- Familiarity with CAP accreditation requirements preferred
