About the Role


The Strategic Sourcing Manager for Capital Projects is tasked with collaborating with the engineering teams and site maintenance personnel responsible for executing capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects within our organization. This role involves formulating strategies for the supply of CAPEX and operational expenditure (OPEX) needs across our facilities and warehouses, while implementing and upholding best practices to achieve optimal costs without compromising on the specific service requirements of our clients.


This position oversees a significant category spend exceeding $200 million annually and is accountable for working alongside cross-functional teams to devise and implement strategies for managing CAPEX and OPEX expenditures across more than 50 locations in North America.

Reporting to the Procurement Director, this manager will lead strategic sourcing initiatives for the Americas region, in partnership with the engineering function, aiming to achieve cost efficiencies, establish robust processes, and enhance vendor service levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs category sourcing initiatives for CAPEX and OPEX.
  • Assists in category sourcing efforts in the Americas for additional aspects of procurement as required.
  • Evaluates requirements from both internal and external stakeholders to identify key supplier attributes.
  • Conducts market analysis to assess current and future pricing and supply, providing market summaries for finance and business units.
  • Monitors procurement reporting systems to align with company standards.
  • Selects suppliers in conjunction with the engineering team, negotiates pricing, and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Addresses operational challenges with suppliers and manages performance feedback.
  • Reviews and resolves supplier claims and ensures contract compliance with company policies.
  • Identifies and maintains relationships with suppliers that deliver high-quality products and services at competitive prices while adhering to ethical standards.
  • Negotiates complex procurement requests for materials and services.
  • Collaborates daily with other functions in the region to implement category sourcing strategies.
  • Develops sourcing and implementation strategies that align with Kerry's quality, service, and financial objectives.
  • Prepares and issues purchasing contracts.
  • Reviews contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements for legal accuracy, pricing, and specification compliance.
  • Establishes a system to evaluate vendor quotations utilizing effective negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service.
  • Supports continuous improvement projects within Engineering and Maintenance operations.
Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in engineering or CAPEX procurement, or a related field.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary (20-30%, domestic).
  • Strong communication skills and initiative; the ideal candidate will collaborate with Kerry colleagues across various functions and locations, as well as with external vendors.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of procurement procedures and tools.
  • Able to operate within a dual reporting structure and in virtual teams.
  • Proven ability to gain buy-in and commitment from stakeholders, demonstrating effective collaboration skills.
  • Successful track record in a manufacturing environment within procurement, engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with SAP, procurement sourcing tools, and relevant management systems is advantageous.
  • Exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
