Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Applications Engineer to join our team at IPG Photonics. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for working with state-of-the-art laser processing equipment and the latest robotics and machine tool technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, program, and operate robotic & CNC laser welding/cutting/drilling equipment for customer applications
  • Conduct and report on applications development and processing at IPG locations, customer locations, trade shows, and conferences
  • Perform inspection of samples, including optical microscopy and metallographic cross-sectioning, polishing for weld inspection, and document test results in electronic reports
  • Maintain lab equipment and support engineering development activities, sales support, and customer applications development and support
  • Demonstrate laser system specifications for customers and utilize existing experience with CAD/CAM, CNC, and robotic system programming
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field or foreign equivalent degree
  • 5 years of experience in the High-Power laser related field
  • Develop process parameters for laser welding, cutting, and surface treatment applications to determine the laser and optical configurations for customer projects
  • Program industrial robots like Fanuc, Kuka, and ABB brands and set up communication between robots and different automation devices
  • Program CNC machines and rotatory stages using G and M codes
  • Read and analyze electrical drawings and program different automation devices, like PLCs, microcontrollers, sensors, and HMIs, to control a laser system to perform specific tasks
  • Interact with customers and analyze the information provided to conduct laser applications to meet requirements and provide a professional report

Salary: $75,000 - $85,000/year

Location: Novi, MI
