Overview

The Surgical Instrument Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safe processing of medical instruments and supplies, making them ready for patient use during both routine and emergency situations. This position aligns with the mission and values of St. Alexius Medical Center, emphasizing the importance of maintaining current procedures and initiating necessary charges.

Responsibilities
Precisely assembles surgical trays, individual instruments, and various items according to manufacturer guidelines and departmental protocols. Conducts thorough inspections of instruments and equipment to confirm cleanliness, sharpness, and operational integrity. Oversees biological and chemical testing, documenting results and addressing any positive biological findings promptly. Methodically disassembles, sorts, soaks, and decontaminates instruments and equipment to prepare for terminal sterilization, adhering to established protocols. Efficiently selects and organizes instrumentation and equipment required for surgical procedures, assembling case carts for both scheduled and urgent cases, while prioritizing to prevent any delays in procedures. Verifies and processes unused supplies from completed surgical cases, ensuring accurate charge generation and completion of all necessary documentation. Manages incoming and outgoing communications from the Operating Room(s) and provides assistance to individuals with inquiries. Qualifications

Education: Completion of high school education or equivalent.

Licensure: Certification as a Central Service Technician is required or must be obtained within two years of employment.

Experience: Previous experience in the medical field is preferred.

Skills: Proficient computer skills, effective communication abilities, strong reading comprehension, and cognitive skills are essential.
