As a Certified Surgical Technologist at CHI St. Alexius Health, you will play a crucial role in preparing the operating room for various surgical procedures. Your contributions are vital to the functioning of the surgical team, ensuring a seamless experience for patients.

The operating room operates as a cohesive unit; every member has a significant impact on patient outcomes. Your ability to adapt and collaborate with a team is essential in guiding patients from illness to recovery.

Our dedicated surgical teams prioritize patient-centered care, supporting you from the preoperative assessment through to the surgical suite and keeping families informed throughout the process.

Our physicians specialize in a diverse array of surgical disciplines, including general surgery, orthopaedics, OBGYN, and emergency surgery, establishing CHI St. Alexius Health as a trusted provider in the region.

Utilizing the latest technologies, our surgeons employ advanced techniques, such as laparoscopic surgery, which minimizes incisions, leading to reduced scarring and quicker recovery times.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a diligent and empathetic surgical technician with exceptional organizational skills, a compassionate demeanor, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to think on your feet.

As an integral member of the surgical team, you will anticipate the needs of both the patient and the surgeon, ensuring that each procedure is executed smoothly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the surgical environment with the necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Exhibiting proficiency in sterile techniques, sterilization processes, and infection control measures.
  • Maintaining an organized sterile field and ensuring that all team members adhere to sterile protocols.
  • Assisting the surgeon by providing visibility of the surgical site and aiding in wound closure and dressing application.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to surgical procedures.
  • Conducting accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must:

  • Be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
  • Hold certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT).
  • Possess Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) registration from the relevant nursing board.
  • Have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic principles, case preparation, and infection control.
  • Be proficient in computer applications used in healthcare settings.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
