Livestock Brand Inspector

The Department of Food & Agriculture is seeking a highly skilled Livestock Brand Inspector to join our team. As a Brand Inspector, you will play a critical role in enforcing brand registration and inspection laws, ensuring the integrity of the livestock industry.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct brand inspections of livestock at stockyards, shipping points, ranches, slaughterhouses, and feedlots to verify ownership and compliance with brand registration laws.
- Facilitate livestock transfer of ownership transactions and ensure accurate documentation.
- Enforce brand registration and inspection laws, detecting altered brands and assisting in theft and estray investigations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including ranchers, feedlot operators, and law enforcement agencies, to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prepare and complete concise written reports detailing inspection findings and enforcement actions.
- Valid California Driver License (CDL) and a good driving record.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, including holidays, and in all weather conditions.
- Pass a medical evaluation and receive clearance prior to beginning work.
The duties of this position are performed indoors and outdoors, with primary work areas located outdoors in livestock markets, feedlots, slaughter plants, and ranches. The incumbent may occasionally work under difficult conditions and be exposed to extremes in temperature, high levels of noise, heavy machinery, and various odors.
