Position Summary

In this role, the incumbent will function as a health care interpreter, facilitating communication between patients and healthcare professionals in both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting modes. The interpreter will play a crucial role in supporting departmental operations and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures, particularly those concerning patient confidentiality and informed consent.

The interpreter will be responsible for accurately conveying medical information between individuals who speak different languages, adhering to the established Standards of Practice and Codes of Ethics for Medical Interpreters.


Minimum Qualifications

- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent international degree.
- A minimum of two years of relevant bilingual work or interpreting experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in both spoken and auditory comprehension in primary and secondary languages, meeting or exceeding Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) skill level 3+.
- Willingness to travel as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Two or more years of experience as a healthcare interpreter in an acute care or public health setting.
- Completion of a 40-hour interpreter training program, such as Bridging the Gap or ALTA language services.
- National certification as a medical interpreter (CMI or CHI).
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Relevant education or work experience in the candidate's country of origin.

Additional Information

Location: Vidant Health Facilities

Shift: Day shifts

Hours: Typically first or second shift, with occasional weekends and travel to various health facilities.

On-call: Not required
