Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Library Assistant I to join our team at the College of DuPage. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, facilitating patron access to library materials, and performing various circulation and access functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service and Patron Support
    • Provide excellent customer service to patrons, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
    • Facilitate patron access to library materials, including loaning materials, checking out and checking in materials, and renewing library materials.
    • Utilize the scheduling module of the integrated library system to schedule materials and equipment for classroom use.
  • Circulation and Access Functions
    • Process credit card payments, schedule small group study rooms, and produce student ID cards.
    • Assist patrons in locating materials, such as class reserve items and circulation desk media.
    • Solve patron problems and issues based on a thorough understanding of library policies.
  • Other Duties
    • Report facility maintenance and security issues appropriately.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by library management.
Requirements
  • Education
    • One year of college required.
    • LTA Certificate or Associate Degree preferred.
  • Experience
    • One year of customer service experience required.
    • Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
    • One year library circulation experience preferred.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a busy public service area, requiring excellent people skills and flexibility to adjust to last-minute situations. The position involves standing for extended periods, reaching shelf height of 6 feet, and working at counter height. The candidate must also be able to spend extended periods at a computer keyboard and monitor, with vision adequate to read a variety of print materials and computer screens.
