Job Summary

Fayetteville's Hometown Utility is seeking a highly skilled Loss Prevention Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Public Works Commission, you will be responsible for developing and implementing plans to prevent, detect, and resolve incidents of unauthorized services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field investigations and maintenance as needed to minimize financial losses from illegal acquisition of services.
  • Develop and implement plans to discourage, prevent, detect, and resolve incidents of unauthorized services.
  • Investigate potential losses, analyze technical findings, and recommend preventive measures to reduce loss exposure.
  • Evaluate evidence and recommend when law enforcement interaction, civil litigation, or criminal prosecution is warranted.
  • Work with local, state, and federal investigators on cases involving alleged criminal activity.
  • Coordinate the Fraud Detection Program, including Public Awareness/Reporting and training.
  • Monitor industry trends and recommend countermeasures to further reduce exposure.
  • Work with line department to disconnect services overhead and underground.
  • Respond to all power and water diversion scenarios.
  • Analyze data to determine amount of tamper fees to be applied to cases.
  • Create orders and complete them in a Work Management System.
  • Analyze leases and rental agreements for signs of fraud.
  • Respond to theft of copper wire/piping, backflows, and coordinate with law enforcement as needed.
  • AMI meter maintenance work.
  • Daily truck inspections.
  • Driving/operating vehicles in performing work assignments/responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of safety rules/regulations/procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of electric, water, and sewer service operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal system to include local ordinances, statutes, laws, rules, and policies governing theft of service.
  • Working knowledge of legal system including the ability to complete affidavits.
  • Skill in using a personal computer and applicable software.
  • Ability to analyze problems and recommend appropriate, feasible corrective actions/solutions with tact.
  • Ability to plan/organize/schedule work effectively.
  • Ability to create reports within Excel.
  • Ability to work within Microsoft Office/Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to make oral presentations before a community group audience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited two (2) year college with a degree in Law Enforcement, Business Administration, or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in utility loss control programs or related field.
  • OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of seven years of experience as defined above.
  • OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as defined in (A) and (B) above.
