As a Fabrication Manager at Knapheide Manufacturing, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating activities concerned with the production of company products. This includes directing Coaches and other support personnel, as well as ensuring the safety, quality, and productivity of bending operations for all three shifts.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with Materials Manager to ensure assembly lines are stocked with the correct parts, utilizing Kan-Ban practices to monitor and control inventory.
- Plan and direct production activities, establishing production priorities for products in accordance with effective operations and cost factors.
- Develop and implement operating methods and procedures to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
- Act as a change agent, continually seeking improvement in the operations of the facility, and support events that lead to improvement such as P4, PIP, and Kaizen activities.
- Confer with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and obtain data regarding product specifications and delivery dates.
- Establish and monitor key performance metrics for bending operations.
- Coordinate production activities with procurement, maintenance, and operational reports to achieve optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
- Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
- Revised production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure, operating problems, or parts issues.
- Familiarize yourself with press brake and panel bending practices.
- Work closely with Design Engineering to ensure manufacturability of designs.
- Ensure all company policies, such as Equal Employment Opportunities, Safety, Environmental, etc., are properly enforced.
- Manage issues that arise in the workforce by facilitating employee meetings, promoting positive employee relations, and communicating business information to departmental personnel.
- Develop staffing and training plans for departments under your responsibility.
- Monitor and ensure fair and consistent administration of the Labor Contract, provide input for language changes for contract negotiations, and handle all grievances for the bending operation.
To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of ten years of progressive manufacturing experience, preferably in a union operation. A four-year college degree is preferred, but relevant training and experience will be considered. You must have computer skills, including Word, Excel, and other Microsoft products, as well as the ability to analyze data, comprehend management reports, interpret blueprints, and other production-related data. You will need to work extended hours into the evening or days and weekends as required. Excellent verbal communication skills and good written skills are essential. A successful candidate must be a decision-maker who can seek input and make knowledgeable decisions.
The individual must be able to talk and hear, sit, stand, walk, feel, and handle. On occasion, they will need to climb, reach, stoop, bend, or kneel. They must be able to see products, processes, reports, and other objects related to the manufacturing environment.
