The Senior Ultrasound Technologist is accountable for overseeing all functions related to the ultrasound department. This role involves ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained within budgetary constraints. The technologist will provide essential feedback to the immediate supervisor regarding daily operations and contribute to the development of protocols, procedures, and staff assessments. This position requires effective management of direct reports and accountability for their performance. Compliance with all regulatory standards, including quality assurance testing, is essential. The technologist will independently conduct ultrasound procedures using appropriate techniques and will operate within their professional scope. Professional judgment is exercised to ensure equipment is maintained in optimal condition. The role may also include responsibilities in other imaging modalities based on departmental requirements and may involve on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily operations of the ultrasound unit, applying professional judgment in all duties and coordinating patient care. Recognizes achievements and delegates responsibilities effectively. Utilizes problem-solving and prevention skills.
  • Conducts ultrasound procedures of diagnostic quality as requested by referring physicians or radiologists for patients of all ages, adhering to established protocols and assessing ultrasound studies for technical quality. Ensures compliance with radiation safety regulations.
  • Collects clinical history and data to correlate with ultrasound procedures.
  • Performs quality control as necessary.
  • Adheres to sterile techniques.
  • Assists radiologists in specialized procedures and provides medical assistance during emergencies.
  • Coordinates patient care with other departments to enhance patient satisfaction and efficiency.
  • Evaluates educational needs and instructs patients and families regarding procedures tailored to individual requirements. Provides comprehensive education about examinations.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of records, files, and reports as required, performs clerical tasks when necessary, and verifies signed physician orders correspond with billed procedures.
  • Maintains awareness of the location and operation of all emergency equipment within the unit.

Educational Qualifications:
Associate's Degree

Additional Requirements:

Associate's Degree or completion of an accredited program

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
§ Minimum of two registries in relevant specialties as approved by

ARDMS:
Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular Technology, Echo, Musculoskeletal, Neurosonology, Breast

§ CPR Certification required

§ Active membership in ARDMS

Experience Required: - 3 years of relevant experience

Previous job title or experience: Ultrasound Technologist

Preferred Experience:
Progressive experience in ultrasound

Knowledge/Skills:
