Under the guidance of the Laboratory Supervisor, this role will provide both clinical and non-clinical services to facilitate patient-centered care. The phlebotomist is tasked with the timely, accurate, and efficient collection of blood specimens, which is essential for patient care and experience. Laboratory data derived from blood specimens is extensively utilized for diagnostic and treatment purposes.

Key Responsibilities

- Collects sufficient blood specimens from all patient categories, including inpatients (obstetric, medical/surgical, mental health, oncology, rehabilitation, renal, neurological), outpatients, emergency care, and non-patient services (physician clinics, wellness/fitness, environmental monitoring, pediatric) across all age demographics.
- Ensures all specimens are labeled according to established standards.
- Supports LEAN principles of one-piece flow and first in, first out when delivering patient samples to the laboratory.
- Adheres to standard work processes and meets productivity benchmarks.
- Exercises discretion in determining work priorities.
- Collaborates with nursing units and clients to identify critical priorities and resolve discrepancies, including assessing specimen acceptability and canceling tests as necessary.
- Implements continuous quality improvement by representing the Laboratory in a professional, compassionate, and cooperative manner, thereby providing exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

Education: Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess the ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
Preferred: Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program.
Previous Experience: Not required. EOE M/F/V/D
