POSITION TITLE: Special Needs Educational Assistant
SUPERVISOR: Principal, Director of Special Education, & Special Education Instructor
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Non-Exempt
POTENTIAL LOCATIONS: Various educational institutions across Alabama
CONTRACT DURATION: 9-month / 182 days
SALARY STRUCTURE: Based on approved salary guidelines

JOB PURPOSE:
- To support the special education instructor in delivering instructional and support services aimed at maximizing student success.
- To assist in the planning and execution of learning activities for young learners.
- To contribute to the creation of a safe and nurturing educational atmosphere.
- To provide small group instruction under the guidance of the teacher.
- To aid in the preparation and organization of educational materials.
- To promote family engagement in the special education process.
- Associate's degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited institution or a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment.
- Ability to meet the employment suitability criteria under relevant child protection legislation.
- Proven success in related work experience.
- Capability to thrive in a demanding and dynamic environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
- Effective interpersonal skills, emphasizing collaboration with diverse groups.
- Problem-solving abilities as a constructive team member.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Physical capacity to perform job duties, including lifting and assisting students.
- Proficiency in using technology for communication and data management.
- Willingness to accept feedback and improve performance.
- Ability to assist with student hygiene and mobility needs.
- Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with student transportation as necessary.
- Flexibility to work varied hours to support special education transportation.
- Knowledge of CPR and first aid practices.
- Other qualifications as deemed necessary by the Board.
- Exhibit support for the educational institution's vision and objectives.
- Deliver lessons or segments of lessons to individuals or groups, ensuring accuracy and providing additional tasks as directed.
- Assist students in utilizing educational resources and equipment.
- Maintain routine records related to attendance, grades, and behavior as assigned by the teacher.
- Facilitate the safe transfer of students between various settings.
- Support students with personal hygiene needs, including toileting assistance.
- Help manage the physical movement of students with special needs as required.
- Assist in food service and support students during meal times.
- Contribute to maintaining discipline and promoting positive behavior among students.
- Implement behavior management strategies as instructed by the teacher.
- Support students during field trips and other educational activities.
- Provide assistance on transportation for students with special needs as required.
- Engage in professional development and uphold ethical standards in practice.
- Report any unusual occurrences or concerns to appropriate supervisory personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all educational matters.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor.
EVALUATION: Performance will be assessed according to the Board's evaluation policies.
