Job Responsibilities and QualificationsThe Medicaid Eligibility Advocate will be responsible for performing eligibility assessments, evaluating patient financial needs, and advising patients on their insurance benefits and co-payments. This role serves as a key liaison among patients, the hospital, and governmental agencies, engaging in all aspects of case management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and screen patients for current insurance coverage, state and federal assistance programs, or hospital charity applications.
- Verify benefits and secure necessary authorizations before treatment initiation, ensuring all required signatures are obtained.
- Gather relevant medical documentation and physician statements for eligibility determinations.
- Complete and submit applications, maintaining communication with patients and government agency representatives to ensure timely processing.
- Accurately collect and enter insurance, demographic, and eligibility data into the system, documenting all interactions.
- Participate in ongoing training programs as required.
- Adhere to office policies and assist with various administrative functions as needed.
- Field visits may be required, necessitating reliable personal transportation.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED, or relevant experience in lieu of formal education.
- Associate degree preferred.
- At least one year of related experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Relevant education may substitute for experience requirements.
