The Learning Specialist will play a crucial role in evaluating and instructing cognitive and emotional skills for students pursuing a Medical Doctorate (M.D.) degree. This position is designed to support and empower medical students in achieving their academic and professional goals through various initiatives, including academic coaching and life skills development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of learning sciences, instructional methodologies, and effective study strategies to enhance student success.
- Provide tailored learning strategies, coaching, and advocacy to medical students.
- Evaluate students' academic performance and devise improvement strategies.
- Create individualized study and time management plans based on student needs.
- Conduct instruction and advising through one-on-one sessions, workshops, and professional development activities.
- Collaborate with faculty and student services to monitor and enhance student support services.
- Oversee academic interventions and advising, tracking student progress and utilizing assessment tools to guide students in their learning journey.
- Connect students with appropriate resources, including accessibility services, and assist with accommodations for licensure examinations.
- Manage the Peer Assisted Learning Services (PALS) program, including tutor recruitment and orientation.
- Implement evidence-based practices to support the diverse needs of students.
- Maintain accurate records of student data to identify at-risk students and document interventions.
- Contribute to operational reports and analyze assessment data for curriculum development.
- Engage regularly with faculty and student services to ensure student development is on track.
- Support students in adapting to the academic environment for personal and academic success.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant field such as higher education, educational psychology, or social work.
- Minimum of three years of educational experience.
- Preferred: Doctoral degree and five years of educational experience.
Skills Required:
- Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking capabilities.
- Proficiency in project management and multitasking.
- Ability to utilize technology for educational purposes.
