The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is in search of a Senior Media Relations Manager to support the Managing Director of Communications in enhancing VEDP's visibility through the execution and management of earned media initiatives that highlight Virginia's key sectors, economic growth, workforce solutions, and testimonials from industry leaders. This role will entail recognizing trends and compelling narratives for press releases and media pitches; drafting media responses, event briefings, and key talking points; and producing content for sector-specific case studies, the annual report, and other publications as necessary. Additionally, this position will aid in the organization and execution of media tours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the deployment of a successful earned media strategy that boosts brand recognition and articulates Virginia's business advantages.
- Develop and disseminate press releases and media advisories.
- Craft strategic media pitches and cultivate relationships with journalists.
- Assist in the logistics and execution of media tours.
- Monitor and document media inquiries and responses by topic.
- Regularly update industry-specific content and ranking statistics for media responses and value proposition materials.
- Support the drafting of media briefs and responses.
- Manage media monitoring tools by updating media lists, ensuring accurate contacts for Virginia media and industry-specific lists, and tracking coverage.
- Foster relationships with internal stakeholders to enhance storytelling.
- Assist in drafting and refining announcements, quotes, event briefings, and media advisories for the Governor.
- Contribute to speech writing, talking points, and other public relations tasks as needed.
- Maintain a database of quotes for the Marketing & Communications Division.
- Assist the Communications Director in creating and updating project case studies for each target industry, covering all regions of Virginia consistently.
- Support the development of proprietary content, including thought leadership pieces.
Required Skills:
- Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Strong editing capabilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to uphold strict confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.
- Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Sound judgment in decision-making.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage multiple projects.
- Preferred understanding of economic development principles and state and local government programs.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of 5 years in communications or public relations.
- Experience in media relations, including planning and executing earned media campaigns.
- Experience in pitching media on a national scale.
This position may involve travel and representing VEDP at various functions and events. A valid Virginia driver's license and the ability to obtain a passport are required. All candidates must apply through the official website and submit three writing samples. Salary minimum: $70,000.
