About the Job

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Structural Engineering to lead our New England department. The successful candidate will have a strong background in bridge design, particularly in Massachusetts, and will be responsible for overseeing all structural design projects and staff in the region. Key Responsibilities

The Director of Structural Engineering will be responsible for:
  • Leading our New England structural engineering department with projects primarily in Massachusetts and supplemented with work in New Hampshire, Maine, and other New England states
  • Nurturing strong client relationships through open and regular communication
  • Providing long-term vision, goals, and strategy for the department
  • Providing financial oversight of the department's business operations
  • Providing mentoring, oversight, and guidance for GPI's New England structural team leaders
  • Ensuring the execution of quality control and quality assurance plans for the department
  • Working with our marketing department to oversee business development and proposals for new structural engineering work
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's Degree a plus)
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in structural design and project management
  • Licensed professional engineer in Massachusetts or the ability to obtain the license within six months of hire
  • Ability to obtain a professional engineer license in all New England states within six months of hire
  • Strong background in bridge design in Massachusetts, specifically with MassDOT
  • Strong technical background with expertise in superstructure and substructure design, cost estimation, and specification preparation
  • Prior successful experience in project management, effective communication, and mentoring
  • Working knowledge of applicable bridge design codes
  • A history of positive client relationships in Massachusetts
  • Proven skills in communication, organization, and planning for long-term success
