Job Summary

The City of Hermosa Beach Isai seeks a highly skilled and experienced City Engineer to lead the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the City's Capital Improvement Program, overseeing the work of professional engineers and technical employees, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering services to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the Engineering Division, including planning, coordinating, and directing the activities of the division.
  • Supervise the work of professional engineers and technical employees, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  • Review and approve engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with City regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate with other departments and agencies to ensure effective communication and collaboration on engineering projects.
  • Provide technical assistance and consultation to other departments, agencies, and stakeholders on engineering matters.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the Engineering Division, ensuring effective use of resources and allocation of funds.
  • Prepare and present reports to the City Council, Commissions, and other stakeholders on engineering projects and programs.
  • Act as the Public Works Director in the absence of the Director, ensuring continuity of operations and effective leadership.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of eight years of licensed civil engineering experience, including design, contract administration, construction administration, and personnel management.
  • Three years of supervisory experience in the public sector is highly desirable.
  • Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California is required.
  • Ability to work in an office environment and perform tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry books, files, and reports weighing up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions

The City Engineer will work in an office environment and may be required to drive to various locations to conduct field inspections and perform other engineering activities. The employee may be exposed to inclement weather, sun, dust, and pollens. The employee may also be required to attend evening or weekend meetings to conduct presentations or workshops.
