We are seeking a highly skilled Intake Counselor to join our team at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. As an Intake Counselor, you will play a critical role in coordinating patient admissions to our facility, conducting comprehensive assessments, and providing crisis intervention.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct thorough assessments of potential patients to determine their clinical needs and provide crisis intervention
• Maintain effective communication with referral sources, families, and patients, and collaborate with the Medical Director to facilitate admissions
• Educate staff on insurance information, reimbursement/billing issues, and utilization practices
• Refer inquiries to appropriate external agencies and maintain open communication with the team regarding anticipated admissions, patient needs, and admission schedules
• Prepare written reports of pre-admission results, adhering to ASAM criteria, and include recommendations for the required level of care and treatment
• Conduct group counseling sessions, facilitating family group information sessions, if needed
• Collect payments for copays, cash payments, and MD fees
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, Epic, and KIPU, and ensure the activity report is completed in a timely and concise manner
Requirements
• High School Graduate or equivalent required; Associate degree in Behavioral Science or Allied Mental Health preferred
• Two years minimum experience in addiction/behavioral health required; three years of experience in addiction/behavioral health environment preferred
• Working knowledge of CARF and/or JCAHO accreditation standards required
• Knowledge of the 12-step, Smart Recovery, and other treatment models required
• Knowledge of HIPAA required
• Certifications: CATC II, CADC II, CADC III, LAADC, or BLS - AHA Basic Life Support
