Role Summary:

The Family Support and Stabilization (FSS) program is designed to assist families receiving support from the Department of Children and Families. Our goal is to enhance parenting skills, improve family dynamics, ensure child safety, prevent out-of-home placements, and facilitate successful reunification processes. The FSS program connects families with appropriate community resources, including mental health and substance use services for all family members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality services to families engaged with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in accordance with FSS models.
  • Collaborate with parents/caregivers to meet the goals set by DCF.
  • Conduct assessments to identify strengths and needs, establishing long-term service plans.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans in partnership with clients and/or caregivers, ensuring necessary consents are obtained.
  • Regularly review and update treatment plans as per established policies.
  • Facilitate or arrange transportation for clients to appointments and community services as needed.
  • Collaborate with clients and caregivers to create risk management and safety plans.
  • Address child safety and welfare concerns through community resource connections, school advocacy, and legal matters.
  • Identify community resources and foster natural supports for clients and caregivers to achieve treatment goals.
  • Provide crisis and emergency support for clients and family members through various communication methods.
  • Assist clients and caregivers in establishing collaborations with relevant individuals, such as case managers and educators.
  • Report emergencies or critical incidents to supervisors promptly.
  • Offer additional visits and wraparound services to support families in crisis.
  • Maintain flexibility in scheduling visits, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Engage in ongoing collaboration with mental health providers and community agencies.
  • Participate in DCF meetings to discuss ongoing concerns and recommendations.
  • Document all interactions with families, including progress and collateral contact notes.
  • Maintain regular communication with the DCF team, providing updates on engagement and treatment progress.
  • Provide guidance on parenting skills and address unique stressors faced by diverse populations.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a human services field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Family Therapy) from an accredited institution.
  • Training in family therapy and experience working with youth and families.
  • Experience navigating child/family-serving systems and advocating for families in behavioral health.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a creative and analytical approach.
  • Excellent communication, administrative, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community agencies.
  • Willingness to support youth and families 24/7.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for program needs.
  • Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish required; English/Portuguese and Cape Verdean a plus) are preferred.
