0.6 FTE, Part-time, Day shift (6:30 am - 3:30 pm or 7:00 am - 3:30 pm) with every 4th weekend and holidays on 3rd shift (11:00 pm - 7:00 am).
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for executing routine and specialized diagnostic testing procedures. This role includes ensuring quality control, maintaining documentation, verifying instrument functionality, and performing necessary specimen collection and clerical tasks as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Qualified candidates must demonstrate the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
- Conduct and document quality control measures.
- Verify the operational status of laboratory instruments.
- Perform initial evaluations and manage incoming specimens, including separation, centrifugation, and preservation.
- Organize, label, and prepare specimens and test materials for analysis.
- Measure and dispense specimens and reagents accurately.
- Monitor manual functions of testing systems to ensure precision and accuracy; execute standards and controls through automated or manual methods.
- Record and assess quality control results in accordance with established limits; implement corrective actions for any discrepancies.
- Enter test results and related data into the laboratory information system and logbooks after quality controls are validated.
- Communicate critical test results to appropriate healthcare providers.
- May conduct competency assessments and provide training to new staff.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and decontamination of laboratory instruments and workspaces.
- Exhibit professionalism and uphold the core values of the organization.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
The following responsibilities are considered secondary to the primary duties:
- Answer phone inquiries, manage collection requests, and provide information regarding patient preparation and test interpretation.
- Search for and retrieve reports from the laboratory information system or physical files.
- Monitor reagent supplies, manage inventory, and prepare solutions as needed.
- Report unusual findings or conditions to supervisory personnel and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Engage in ongoing education and training to maintain knowledge in relevant medical fields.
- Participate in weekend and holiday rotations as required to ensure workflow continuity.
- Fulfill on-call responsibilities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED. Completion of a medical laboratory science program or equivalent training. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized body, or eligibility to take such certification exams. A minimum of one year of clinical internship or laboratory experience is required.
