Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is seeking a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer, Level IV to support the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex.

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is a premier government contractor that employs highly motivated and well-qualified personnel to advance the core mission of the Y-12 National Security Complex. As a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer, Level IV, you will be part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, revise, and review Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) documentation, including Criticality Safety Evaluations (CSEs), Nuclear Criticality Safety Determinations (NCSDs), Technical Deviations (TDs), and other NCS technical basis documentation.
  • Complete required NCS annual Operational Reviews as needed.
  • Provide daily nuclear facility support, including facility walkdowns, review of NCS requirements implementing documents, participation at facility Operational Safety Boards, and other tasks as needed.
  • Ensure fissile materials are processed, stored, transferred, and handled safely to protect personnel and property against a nuclear criticality accident.
  • Perform analysis of equipment, processes, and procedures to prescribe correct methods, control requirements, and limitations.
  • Conduct surveillances, inspections, walkthroughs, appraisals, or audits of fissile material operations to ensure compliance with approvals.
  • Provide operating areas with specific NCS professional interpretations and advice.
  • Perform training to employees in basic NCS as requested.
Qualifications:
  • BS Degree or higher in a technical discipline from an ABET accredited university.
  • Relevant experience with 2 or more years direct experience in Nuclear Criticality Safety (preferably DOE-specific).
  • Experience in the application of DOE rules, guides, orders, standards, and handbooks, including 10CFR 830, Nuclear Safety Management.
  • Active DOE Q clearance is required.

This position requires the employee to maintain a Q clearance from the Department of Energy. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements, including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
