Job Title: Senior Robotic Algorithms and Control Engineer

At Intuitive Surgical, we are committed to advancing the world of minimally invasive care. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Robotic Algorithms and Control Engineer to join our team.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for developing and implementing control and safety algorithms for new instruments and accessories of the daVinci Surgical System. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in robotics, control systems, and electro-mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement control and safety algorithms for new instruments and accessories
  • Work closely with the clinical development team to understand requirements for instruments and accessories performance
  • Conduct analysis and experimentation to develop a deep understanding of the behavior and limitations of the mechanism
  • Collaborate with the mechanical design team to characterize and optimize the mechanism for performance and safety
  • Implement new feature sets and maintain existing ones in software
  • Responsible for risk analysis and implementation of safety algorithms
  • Document risks, requirements, and test protocols to support requests for approval by regulatory agencies
  • Work with the manufacturing team to develop automated fixtures for calibrating, testing, and aiding assembly of the instrument
  • Set manufacturing test specifications to ensure mechanical performance
Requirements
  • PhD in a robotics-related field with at least 3 years of experience
  • Intuitive understanding of electro-mechanical phenomena and ability to conduct rigorous and detailed analysis
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Matlab, with knowledge of hardware, software, and mechanism integration
  • Knowledge of classical and modern servo control systems, robot kinematics, and statistical methods
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
