Job Summary

The Referral Testing Specialist is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our referral testing process. This includes packing and shipping specimens to non-Papago performing locations, managing work flow, and monitoring for incoming time-sensitive or returning samples that require further testing.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Retrieve and sort specimens for transportation to referral laboratories, adhering to federal and state regulations.
  2. Maintain advanced knowledge of specimen requirements for both in-house and referred testing, recognizing sample quality, quantity, and transportation temperature requirements.
  3. Resolve complex referral testing issues, including TIQ resolution, missing or lost specimen investigations, and TASK resolution.
  4. Monitor insurance and billing information for accuracy and determine if additional information is required to prevent inaccurate billing.
  5. Utilize prioritization and multitasking skills to complete daily assignments within accepted time frames.
  6. Assist in the training of new employees and aid in the development and validation of all TSO procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated intermediate level PC skills.
  • Basic medical terminology and specimen type recognition.
  • Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma concepts is a plus.

Work Environment

This role requires the ability to stand for periods up to three hours and work at refrigerated temperatures for extended periods.
