Position Overview

Department: Clinical/Nursing
Reports to: Nursing Supervisor

Role Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing direct patient care and exceptional customer service, supporting medical and nursing personnel, performing clerical tasks, and executing other assigned responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately documents relevant patient and medical information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Prepares examination and procedure rooms with necessary supplies and instruments.
  • Assists healthcare professionals in evaluating and treating patients.
  • Handles incoming calls with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Facilitates the scheduling of medical procedures.
  • Confirms patient appointments effectively.
  • Communicates abnormal findings to the appropriate medical staff.
  • Performs or assists with medical procedures under physician supervision, including:
    • Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
    • Assistance during medical procedures
  • Processes prescriptions electronically to pharmacies as required.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with EMR systems and components, including:
    • E-prescribing
    • Laboratory interfaces
    • Documentation components
  • Utilizes transcription modules for dictation and transcription tasks.
  • Ensures functionality of medical staff's computer and dictation systems prior to use, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
  • Coordinates scheduling for procedures and office visits.
  • Maintains patient files and records, contributing to accurate data collection.
  • Participates in mandatory meetings and committees as needed.
  • Alerts the supervisor when clinical or office supplies require replenishment.
  • Upholds patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Performs additional duties as requested by the supervisor and medical staff.
  • Adheres to HIPAA regulations consistently.
  • Assists with patient examinations, procedures, and minor surgical interventions.
  • Records vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma; some college education preferred.
  • Licensure and Certification: Must obtain and maintain BLS certification.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a clinical or patient care environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Must use proper body mechanics when lifting and moving patients, with the ability to lift 20-30 pounds of supplies and equipment.
  • Flexibility: Must be willing to work at various clinic locations as needed.
