Substance Abuse Counselor II

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Substance Abuse Counselor II to join our team at the Ellen Halbert Unit in Burnet, Texas. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in helping individuals overcome addiction and achieve a healthy, productive life.

• Assist in planning and coordinating chemical dependency counseling programs to deliver effective services to offenders with histories of substance use, abuse, or addiction.
• Maintain a Therapeutic Community (TC) environment within the facility, working closely with correctional staff to create a living environment that promotes peer-driven growth and recovery.
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations using valid measurement tools to assess the recovery needs and re-offense risk of offenders.
• Develop and implement Individual Treatment Plans based on the severity and characteristics of each offender, incorporating feedback from collateral information and clinical interviews.
• Provide counseling and recovery skills training, participating in offender orientation, educational, and individual and process counseling groups in compliance with program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain accurate offender records and statistical feedback on evaluations, compiling data and submitting reports as required.
• Develop Individual Progress Summaries for each offender on caseload, reflecting evaluation results, participation, and completion of SAFPF/IPTC programs.

• Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) required.
• Two (2) years full-time, wage-earning experience in substance abuse treatment or substance abuse education.
• Current valid license as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or current valid certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals, OR current qualifying credential to conduct counseling in a treatment environment.
• A valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
• Must successfully complete annual, TDCJ approved background checks and in-service training requirements.
• Must maintain a valid license or certification for continued employment.
