Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at the Ellen Halbert Unit in Burnet, Texas. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in helping individuals overcome addiction and achieve a healthy, productive life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training to offenders
  • Participate in offender orientation, educational, and individual and process counseling groups
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess recovery needs and re-offense risk
  • Develop and implement individual treatment plans based on offender assessments
  • Maintain accurate offender records and compile data for reports
  • Implement follow-up and aftercare plans for offenders prior to release
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) required
  • Current letter of registration as a Counselor Intern (LCDC-I) from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or current valid certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional Applicant Status (CCJP-A)
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record
  • Successful completion of Correctional Awareness Training (CAT) and TDCJ approved annual in-service training requirements
