Substance Abuse Counselor

Join Management & Training Corporation (MTC) as a Substance Abuse Counselor I at the Ellen Halbert Unit in Burnet, Texas. Our team is dedicated to providing a safe and secure working environment while helping at-risk individuals receive the treatment necessary for success.

We are seeking a qualified Substance Abuse Counselor I to provide substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training to offenders. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of substance abuse treatment and be able to work effectively with a diverse population.

1. Provide substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training to offenders.
2. Maintain a Therapeutic Community (TC) within the facility, working closely with correctional staff to create a living environment that is peer-driven.
3. Interview, screen, and evaluate offenders for potential program participation.
4. Conduct comprehensive evaluations using valid measurement tools to assess recovery needs and re-offense risk.
5. Develop and implement individual treatment plans based on offender assessments and review of collateral information.
6. Maintain offender records and compile data for reports and documentation.
7. Implement follow-up and aftercare plans for offenders prior to release and disseminate information on community resources.

• Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) required.
• Current letter of registration as a Counselor Intern (LCDC-I) from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or current valid certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional Applicant Status (CCJP-A) as approved by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals.
• Select applicants must obtain the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) license or the Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) certification within five (5) years from the date of their registration as a Counselor Intern or CCJP-A.
• Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
• Must successfully complete Correctional Awareness Training (CAT) and TDCJ-approved annual in-service training requirements and background checks.
