Position Overview:
As a vital member of the special education team, you will play a key role in fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include supporting educational initiatives crafted by both special and general education instructors. This may involve leading small group sessions, providing individualized follow-up, re-teaching concepts, and ensuring students remain focused on their tasks.

Enhancing student success and independence is paramount, which will be achieved through the application of Individual Education Program (IEP) modifications and accommodations. This includes tasks such as note-taking, reading assistance, utilizing technology, and implementing organizational strategies.

Regular feedback to special education teachers regarding general education class activities, student engagement, and behavior is essential. You will also promote a positive educational atmosphere and advocate for the needs of students.

Facilitating social interactions between students with disabilities and their peers is a critical aspect of this role. Additionally, you will support the development of individual communication, social, and functional skills.

Implementing tailored behavior plans for individual students is a key responsibility. This includes providing positive reinforcement, assisting with self-regulation and behavior management, and helping students transition between general education settings when necessary. Safe restraint procedures will be followed when required.

Data collection on student progress will be conducted as directed by the special education teacher. You may also assist students with mobility needs, which can include toileting, lifting, and using adaptive equipment.

Participation in school-related community outings may be required, including the possibility of driving a district vehicle. Supporting daily living activities such as feeding, hygiene, and dressing is also part of the role.

Maintaining the confidentiality of student and family information is crucial. A minimum of an Associate's degree (60 college credits) or successful completion of the Para Pro test or Para Educator Assessment is required.


Compensation:
The Support Specialist position is classified within the LEAF bargaining unit (Lakeville Education Assistants Federation).

The role is categorized under the LEAF Contract as B-2-1, with a pay range of $19.08 to $23.12 per hour, depending on experience (subject to change with the completion of the LEAF contract).
