Position Overview
The Lead Risk Management Officer for Model Risk Governance is tasked with the pivotal role of enhancing and supervising the Model Risk Governance (MRG) framework at First Interstate Bancsystem Inc. The successful candidate will possess substantial experience in MRG within a mid-sized or larger financial institution.

Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in essential areas of MRG, including:
1. Model development, execution, and application.
2. Model assessment and validation.
3. Continuous monitoring and reporting of both individual and aggregate model risks.

Moreover, a comprehensive understanding of various modeling methodologies and techniques is expected, particularly those relevant to:
- Credit risk
- Liquidity risk
- Interest rate risk
- Capital stress testing
- Fraud detection and prevention
- Credit underwriting
- BSA/AML compliance

Additionally, familiarity with emerging techniques and risks is crucial. The candidate should also possess extensive knowledge and experience across diverse banking operations.

Strategic Leadership
This role necessitates a strategic mindset with a background in risk governance, capable of proactively spearheading initiatives to manage risk effectively. The candidate will be responsible for aligning the MRG framework with the organization's strategic goals and regulatory standards.

Essential Duties
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Implementing the model risk governance policy, framework, and procedures in alignment with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
- Conducting comprehensive model validations across a variety of models utilized in credit risk, market risk, operational risk, and other sectors.
- Collaborating with model owners and developers to ensure effective model governance and lifecycle management, encompassing model development, execution, validation, testing, and ongoing performance evaluation.
- Providing strategic insights and expertise on model risk to senior leadership, model users, and stakeholders throughout the organization.
- Monitoring the evolving model risk landscape for emerging threats and regulatory updates, adapting the MRG framework as necessary to maintain compliance and efficacy.
- Leading initiatives to advance and refine the Model Risk Governance framework, promoting a culture of risk awareness, integrity, and continuous enhancement.
- Facilitating effective communication, tracking, and reporting on model risk challenges, validation outcomes, and risk mitigation strategies to the Enterprise Risk Management Committee and other pertinent bodies.
