Patient Care Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team at Nuvance Health. As a Patient Care Technician, you will provide assistance with patient care activities and other unit tasks under the general supervision of licensed professional staff and as directed by the manager.
Key Responsibilities- Provide physical care to assigned patients and perform technical skills such as point of care (POC) testing.
- Implement nursing orders promptly and adequately with an understanding of the purpose of each.
- Follow policy and procedure for assigned patient care activities, including unit specific equipment and supplies.
- Provide patient comfort by positioning, extra bathing, straightening linens, and putting personal articles within reach with courtesy and responsiveness.
- Provide for patient safety through preventative measures such as side rails, restraints, bed/chair exit alarm, and hourly rounding.
- Enter all data into the computer system as applicable.
- Communicate all patient and visitor information and observations to the appropriate person.
- Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit, demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Report and/or record any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patient, and report all unusual conditions or reactions to the nurse in charge.
- Recognize and respond to priorities in the patient care process, responding promptly and exercising good judgment in setting priorities for activities.
- Use effective working relationships with all healthcare team members, patients, and significant others.
- Maintain a safe and orderly work environment and a clean, well-stocked work area, assisting with maintaining unit equipment.
- Work as a Safety Attendant/Patient Sitter by providing a safe environment to specific patients, following WCHN standards of service excellence.
- Attend staff meetings, reading and signing 100% of meeting minutes.
- Maintain competency for Basic Life Support certification.
- Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in a hospital environment is preferred but not required. Active CNA certification is preferred. BLS/CPR is required within 90 days of start date or upon completion of orientation process.
Working ConditionsThis position requires manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity. There is some occupational risk and physical effort, with the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force. The physical environment is significant, with exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and human waste.
