We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Department Head for Materials Design and Analysis to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers and scientists in the development of computational models and performance predictions for advanced material systems.
  • Develop proposals and projects to further our knowledge of computational modeling and analysis.
  • Provide project updates to sponsors, present research findings at conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with engineers in other technical areas across ARL.
  • Plan, staff, and execute programs to ensure all departmental staff and faculty are appropriately tasked.
  • Recruit, retain, and define performance expectations of department staff and faculty.
  • Identify professional development and training opportunities.
  • Mentor and encourage creativity in innovative technologies and research.
  • Evaluate professional growth through performance reviews.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline, plus 5 years of related experience.
  • Expertise in CAD and FEA methods and commercial applications.
  • Demonstrated success leading a team of engineers/scientists.
  • Previous success with collaborations in a multi-disciplinary, team-oriented culture.
  • Proposal and technical writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active government security clearance.

Working Location: Fully on-site, located in State College, PA.
