Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Corrections Officer to join our team in the Community Corrections Division. As a Corrections Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety by supervising and supporting individuals under our jurisdiction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor individuals under our jurisdiction to ensure compliance with court orders and agency policies.
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess the needs and risks of supervised individuals and provide support and guidance as needed.
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans to address the needs and risks of supervised individuals.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a safe and supportive reentry into the community.
  • Administer assessments and evaluations to identify risk factors and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Enforce supervision conditions and the law, and present accurate written documentation and oral testimony in court and other hearings.
  • Identify, collect, document, process, and maintain evidence and information, ensuring proper chain of custody and storage.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the US Department of Education, or foreign equivalent.
  • One year of experience as a Community Corrections Officer (CCO) within the Washington State Department of Corrections, or three years of work experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social services, law enforcement, or closely related field.
  • Ability to carry and properly utilize a department-issued firearm.
  • Ability to remain objective when dealing with individuals under supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with system- and community-based stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability through coursework or work experience in three or more of the following: making field visits, preparing written correspondence, reports, and/or documents, presenting cases in court or hearings, completing assessments of risk factors, designing, monitoring, and/or facilitating treatment plans, determining and making referrals to resources as appropriate, maintaining official records and tracking supervised individuals/residents' progress and compliance.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with program participants, staff at all levels within the agency, and with a broad range of system- and community-based external stakeholder organizations.
