Position Overview

The Mechanical Maintenance Lead is responsible for overseeing the mechanical maintenance operations within the Rolling Mill sector. This role involves reporting directly to the maintenance manager and entails planning and directing safety protocols, work assignments, and training initiatives for all team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise a dedicated team engaged in maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems within the rolling mill.
  • Manage breakdown, rebuild, and preventive maintenance programs to effectively reduce production downtime caused by equipment malfunctions.
  • Oversee the maintenance and installation of equipment and systems in the melt shop, including cranes and scrap handling machinery.
  • Implement and prioritize the preventive maintenance program for various mechanical systems, including transformers, rolling mill equipment, overhead cranes, PLCs, and HVAC systems.

Team Management

The Mechanical Maintenance Lead is accountable for the selection, training, evaluation, and motivation of team members. This includes ensuring compliance with established safety protocols and fostering a culture of safety within the team.

Challenges and Problem-Solving

One of the primary challenges in this role is to minimize production downtime through effective scheduling and planning. The Mechanical Maintenance Lead will monitor ongoing work to ensure maintenance tasks are executed correctly, anticipate potential issues, and take corrective measures as necessary.

Qualifications

  • A four-year degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Material Science, along with 3 to 5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Formal training in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, with 8 to 10 years of experience in heavy mechanical maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business systems and complex technical processes.
  • Strong ability to train and mentor team members.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a focus on people management.
  • Experience working in challenging weather conditions.
