ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:
1. REPORTS TO: Captains – Operations Director
2. SUPERVISES: N/A
The Field Staff role requires close collaboration with Lieutenants, Captains, Operations Director, Human Resources Director, and Executive Director to ensure the effective delivery of services by Marble Falls Area EMS.
Moreover, this position necessitates fostering positive relationships with colleagues, Board of Directors, local officials, community organizations, the public, and various emergency responders involved in emergency medical services.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role encompasses a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Delivering proficient emergency and non-emergency medical care and rescue operations within the MFAEMS service area by responding to medical emergencies, fire safety assists, hazardous material incidents, and rescue situations to preserve life and minimize health risks;
- Ensuring the operational readiness of emergency medical vehicles, equipment, and facilities;
- Supporting the coordination of specialized initiatives such as safety protocols, disaster response, logistics, special operations, training, public education, advanced medical assistance, mentoring, quality improvement, volunteer coordination, and mass casualty management;
- Guaranteeing personnel safety and accountability;
- Participating in required training;
- Assisting leadership in ensuring compliance with MFAEMS policies and emergency medical services regulations;
- Safely operating emergency ambulances and other light-duty emergency medical response vehicles;
- Assuming command or leadership roles as necessary for managing emergency situations, including those with multiple patients or complex rescues;
- Responding to emergencies during off-duty hours as needed;
- Filling in for Captains and Lieutenants when required, providing advanced life support pre-hospital care as necessary;
- Assessing, evaluating, and requesting necessary resources during emergency operations;
- Collaborating with officers from paid and volunteer fire departments during fire safety assists and hazardous materials responses;
- Cooperating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies during mass casualty incidents, hazardous materials situations, and drug task force operations;
- Providing patient care as necessary;
- Assisting in the scheduling and allocation of MFAEMS resources to meet departmental goals;
- Supporting the Command Team in:
- Training and Quality Assurance/Improvement
- Development and implementation of training programs;
- Creation and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures;
- Establishment of medical scope of practice;
- Evaluation of EMS activities and development of improvement plans;
- Maintenance and repair of EMS vehicles and facilities;
- Engaging with city, county, and elected officials on matters of mutual interest;
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Field Staff must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and managing materials and supplies of similar weight. The role requires extended periods of walking, standing, and sitting. Staff must utilize their senses effectively to perform assigned tasks. The job entails working both indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND TRAINING:
The Field Staff position demands a thorough understanding of emergency medical services, including organizational procedures, technical principles, best practices, and common challenges related to EMS and disaster response.
Field Staff must be well-versed in local ordinances and state and federal laws governing EMS operations. The role requires mental acuity and experience to effectively plan, assign, coordinate, and execute various functions within an EMS department.
In emergency scenarios, Field Staff must demonstrate sound judgment, coordinate subordinate activities, react calmly and swiftly, and maintain effective working relationships with government officials and the public.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- A valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
- Texas EMT-B, AEMT, or Paramedic certification.
- NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications.
