Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Mechanic III to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing advanced HVAC work, including operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical control systems and components of HVAC equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overhaul, remove, and replace, and/or repair air conditioning, heating, and ventilation equipment.
  • Repair steam and hot water boilers, and all auxiliary steam and hot water equipment.
  • Install or remove and replace electrical control wiring and high voltage wiring within the equipment.
  • Monitor direct-digital-control (DDC) software unique to each piece of HVAC equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services on equipment.
  • Test refrigeration equipment to determine if there are leaks and to locate and repair sources of recognized leaks.
  • Maintain records and prepare correspondence and reports related to work orders, repairs, installations, service, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compliance.
Requirements
  • Minimum five (5) years' full-time progressively responsible work experience operating, servicing, and repairing HVAC and boiler equipment in commercial or residential facilities.
  • Considerable knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems, and ability to diagnose malfunctioning units and perform maintenance on all types of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Skill in the use of analog and digital volt, ohm, and amp meters.
  • Knowledge of HVAC Refrigeration codes (Uniform Mechanical Code) and ability to comply with TDLR laws and regulations as it pertains to steam and hot water boilers as well as EPA standards as it applies to refrigerants.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ACR Contractor license through Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) (HVAC Class A or B License).
  • EPA 608 Type 3 or Universal certification.
  • R410A Refrigerant certificate.
