Key Responsibilities- Assist in reviewing and researching building permit and development proposal requests, including interpreting plats, plans of development, and construction documents.
- Provide information and guidance to the public on zoning, land use, business license requirements, and other land development-related matters.
- Support the development of training materials, media, and programs to explain the application of national construction codes, state regulations, and construction material standards.
- Contribute to the planning process, including comprehensive and long-range planning projects, site plan and landscape reviews, and code compliance.
- Collaborate with various departments to advance projects in environmental inspection, engineering, construction, and maintenance work for roads, drainage, transit service, and erosion control.
- Full-time enrollment status, with at least a 2.5 GPA, within a fully accredited bachelor's degree program in urban planning, geography, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Relevant job or volunteer experience is preferred.
- Strong foundational knowledge and coursework in a placement-relevant field.
- Excellent organization and research skills, with the ability to collect and organize facts/tasks effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Familiarity with computer systems and demonstrated proficiency in common software products.
- Ability to multitask and manage priorities.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
- A working knowledge of GIS is preferred for some placements.
- Ability to understand, follow, and disseminate compliance standards and policies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and make sound decisions relative to their assigned program area.
- Non-supervisory.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a part of a team.
- Ability to work in an office and/or an outdoor setting.
- Placements may require working in a wide array of locations and potentially working within adverse conditions.
- May require the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Visual and hearing acuity and physical ability sufficient to perform assigned duties.
- The hourly rate for this position is $23.00 per hour.
- The work location will be at one of our various County offices, depending on the department for which the successful candidate is hired.
- This position may require a valid driver's license to perform assigned duties at various locations.
- A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment.
